要求

Job offer: PhD student (f/m/d)
Rhizosphere microbiomes of agricultural plants
The Chair of Ecological Microbiology (Prof. Tillmann Lüders) of the University of Bayreuth is looking for a highly motivated and inspired PhD student to work in the BMBF project RhizoTraits. This recently funded, highly interdisciplinary project seeks to elucidate principle mechanisms of drought resistance medi-ated by rhizosphere traits. A comprehensive comparison between stress resistance traits of modern, yield-optimized plant varieties and old landraces will be elaborated.
The project is available for over 3 years starting in Sept. 20.
We seek to fill the position a.s.a.p., but no later than Nov. 20.
The project tasks include:
Comparison of rhizosphere microbiota (PGPR and mycorrhiza) between selected modern agricultural varieties vs. old landraces of maize and wheat.
Analyses will include basic indicators of microbial biomass and activity, next-generation sequencing of bacterial and of fungal rhizosphere communities and stable isotope probing (15N, 13CO2).
Traits of rhizosphere microbiomes involved in utilizing rhizodeposits and in plant stress resistance are to be identified.

We focus on topics of soil and groundwater microbiology with many excellent opportunities for interdisciplinary cooperation and training. The RhizoTraits project involves close interactions with other research groups at the University of Bayreuth and across Bavaria. Remuneration is according to public service agreements (EG 13 65% TVL). Handicapped applicants will be given preference if equally qualified.
